Audience and institution Practice Essay

Today is May 5th, 2020. Then end of the school year is only one month way. We have already been doing online schooling for about 5 weeks now. I've gotten very use to it so far and waking up whenever I want is a nice privilege. I hope next year we can have school for the whole year. I have had turned in my course work for a couple of my classes now. This all feels weird still and I know I say that a lot but this is the first time this has ever happened in the world where we have to transfer everything to online. Anyways, my media teacher has been keeping us busy for a good reason and we so far had to write 2 essays for the class. I had fun writing them all in my honest opinion and it was interesting doing this one because it took me back to when film was first created. I do not know when my next blog will be but hopefully soon. At first, I didn't like the whole blog thing because it felt like writing a lot of essays but now I feel as if it has grown on me a bit. It's fun writing about my life and what I am doing in school. It reflects my progression throughout the year and its interesting to look back at it. Well that's all I have to say for this blog. Below will be the entire essay that I copied and pasted it. I wanted to give some context rather than just a plain ol' essay. Until next time!

Audience and Institution Essay
Question 6: In relation to the media area you have studied, discuss the ways audience          consumption has changed over time. (Film)
Media is the most important thing to entertainment. Films have made media expand to where is today. Nowadays, you can watch a movie or show on your phone rather than buying a ticket for a movie. Netflix and Hulu are two examples of apps that you can watch movies, shows, and even documentaries on it. The impact of media makes our world of entertainment go around.
The first known film was made in 1888, known as the Roundhay Garden Scene by the inventor Louis Le Prince. According to article What Was the First Movie Ever Made, it states that, “In the late 1880’s various people began experimenting with photo, blending them together to give the illusion of a motion picture.” This so-called curiosity led to the invention of the motion film and therefore the first film. In this time, audience of movies never existed due to the unpopularity of films at this time. Since the first film, the number of movies being created expanded and films began to gain popularity. Just 10 years after the first motion-picture movie (1898), the total number of movies made in their respected years went from 3 to 40 films. The first film projector was invented in 1879 by Charles Francis Jenkins and this is how these films were introduced. In 1896, “the first permanent home for showing movies in the United States was opened at 623 Canal Street, corner of Exchange Alley. The name of the theatre was Vitascope Hall. Cost for admission was 10 cents. This information was founded on the website known as pontchartrain. The articles name was 1896 First Movie Theater In the United States. Only 17 years after the first known film, the first movie theater was made. According to an article known as 100th Anniversary of First-Ever U.S. Movie Theater, the first movie theater was named Nickelodeon and was opened in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on June 19, 1905. With these two inventions, people were able to watch movies by going out to movie theaters. 39 years after the invention of films, the first television was invented in 1927 by an inventor known as Philo Taylor Farnsworth, according to a google search, “when did the first tv come out.” However, it wasn’t until 29 years later in 1956 that the first film was broadcasted on television. That movie was The Wizard of Oz. Now people didn’t have to go out to movie theaters to watch movies and now they were able to watch it right from home. 20 years after The Wizard of Oz airing on television, the VCR was invented in 1976. Now with this invention, you can watch a movie on demand that you purchased. Another 20 more years later in 1996, a new type of film distribution came out known as digital versatile disc, or DVD for short. The next year, 1997, Netflix was founded. 11 more years later, it started online streaming and is now the most popular online streaming service.
We are fortunate in the day in age where we can access a movie anywhere. The history of film is very important to todays society. It shows how over time, movies became more popular because of more provided services. Today, film is arguably more popular than music, which most movies include soundtracks within their movies. The technology of film will only improve and who knows how much it will advance.

extract essy

Extract Essay
The theme of the given extract known as, 24, is betrayal. It seems as if that the two characters in the film use to work together. Also, the girl seems to have betrayed the guy and the organization that she works for, assuming FBI or CIA, some type of government agency. She says that she has a placed a boom somewhere and she wants to have a plane so she can disarm the so-said bomb. This is the main reason why the guy in the extract is upset, or better yet, mad.
The beginning of the film begins with the guy walking into the interrogation room and talking to the girl in the chair. For most of the extract, their conversation focuses on their face, this being called a close up, so that they can show the emotions of the characters in a clearer way. The extract uses a two-person shot for most of the conversation as well. This is to show the interaction between the two characters and help the audience understand who is talking. This is important to use because it also adds context to the situation as well as shows emotion of the characters. Other shots and angles within the extract are zoom, that being when the camera zoomed into the clock and the camera in the top side of the room.
Editing is important to a film because it makes it look cleaner and takes out any mistakes within the film. So therefore, the extract uses these skills to their advantage. For example, when the climax of the scene built up to the max, that being when the guy flipped the table and pushed the chair with the girl on it against the wall, It showed a split screen that was used to show the action of the agents running towards the room while the guy is still yelling at the girl. Ultimately the two split screens meet up into once picture once again. This is important because it gives better context as of why and how the agents got there. Another editing technique within the extract was known as shot-reverse shot. This was used during the dialogue between the two main characters of the extract. This technique is important because instead of constantly moving the camera left to right, which in this case would make the scene a constant use of a pan shot, it shows the back and forth conversation between the two main characters, as said previously.
Sound is another important part about the extract, as well as for most movies and shows made. Within the extract, the main sound is the dialogue between the two character. This is the most important part of the extract because it helps develop the theme the most. Dialogue shows the conversation between the two characters in the extract. Unlike the other shots, the sound is shown by the voices of the people talking to each other. It also shows the context of the extract and the reason as to why they are arguing. Another important sound within the extract is music. Music is important because it is an easy attention grabber. In this case, the music used appears to have a dramatic tone, fitting the situation very well. With the music, it increases the tension and as the climax begins to build up, the music gets suddenly louder. Even in silent films, sounds may have a large factor. With out the non-diegetic sounds of the film, it would not be as enjoyable.
Mis en scene, or staging in French, is the preparation of the film and what is used within the film. A movie can not be made without mis en scene. Mis en scene can be easily remembered by the abbreviation C.L.A.M.P.S. In the same order of the letters, it stands for costumes, Lighting, Actors, Make-up, Props, and Setting. The extract uses all six of these words of the abbreviation. For costumes, their outfit can easily be in that category. The lighting of the film is dark but light enough to see the actors face. This could fall in the category of hard film lighting. The actors of the extract are all the characters within the scene. Instead of their stage names, the actors are the real names of the people portraying those specific characters. Make-up in the extract is hard to locate and possibly not in this scene. Perhaps further in the show or film makeup can be found. Props within the film include the table that was thrown across the room, the monitors that the agents are watching the interrogation, the camera, the clock, and even the paper that was handed to the girl. The setting is the location and time of that specific scene. Although the time is unknown, the location is an interrogation room.
To conclude, the extract would have no meaning without these given factors. Camera angles, movements, and shots show what is going on as sound enhances those given shots. Editing improves both of them and usually is used after film making whereas mis en scene is the plan before the film. As said, without these 4 factors, then the message of the film would be unknown, and the film would not even exist in the first place.

extract paper

Today is Friday, April 24th, 2020. It has been about a week or so since I last uploaded a blog but besides that everything has been alright. I have been just relaxing, playing games on my pc, and watching Netflix. Although the exams are quote on quote canceled, It has been revealed that we still have to do the work for our AICE classes. They are basing their grades off of the work we turn in. Honestly, I am not upset about this because it gives me something to do. Anyways, these four worksheets I have here is a practice extract paper 1 for Cambridge. I had the choice to choose either between the two shows Game of Thrones and 24. I have seen neither of the shows but I chose 24 because I have never heard of it. It was also 20 minutes shorter. You see since we had to watch it 4 times, I originally thought that we had to watch the entire 20 minutes four times. I learned that this was false when I watched it the first time and a big sigh of relief went over me. Although it said to watch it only 4 times, I watched it 5 times only because I was confused at first. The entire thing took me awhile to do as well. After taking notes on the video, I had to write an essay which was the fastest part for me to be honest. It only took me 45 minutes to write 881 words. I will include that essay after this. There isn't anything more to write about so therefore I shall conclude this blog. Until next time.

Nike Commercial

Today is April 12, 2020. Two blogs in one day! Lets go! I have nothing else better to do. I mean I could play that game I talked about, in which I will, but I want to get these out the way first. I'm currently trying to multitask, which I am watching YouTube and trying to write this blog as of right now. So lets talk about the commercial. I remember this like it was yesterday but believe it or not, this was over 5 months ago. So let me give a recap of what happened. Alexis and I picked Nike out of 4 to 6 topics. I honestly forgot. So the first thing we had in mind was football, that being because him and I are football fans. So I wore my favorite teams jersey and he wore a Vikings shirt, but he isn't even a Vikings fans so I don't know why he has that. He is a Oakland Raiders fan, which is now called Los Vegas Raiders because the just recently moved. Coach Dunbar, our schools football coach and my weight training coach, allowed us to use one of his footballs. Coach Dunbar is always going to be my favorite coach that I have ever had cause he so down to earth and humble. He even invited me to go to a Superbowl meeting a day before the game but unfortunately I had to work. I got lucky though because it ended up being canceled. So to conclude the video, It was a cool first time project and It allowed me to gain the knowledge of filming, which helped me film my movie. One last thing, the song in the commercial is the instrumental of the song "Get Dripped" by Lil Yachty.

Music Video Blog

Today is Sunday 12, 2020. Happy Easter! Life in quarantine has been good because I download steam on my computer. I have discovered my new favorite game called "No Mans Sky." I have always loved space and the ocean and the game is basically about space. There are statistically more planets in the game than our own galaxy! So anyway, lets talk about the music video. I have done previous blogs about it but never uploaded it. As a refresher, my partners were Alexis and Kaylnl. I still don't know how to spell her name to this day, which I find funny. Let me give back ground to this video. At first, we didn't know what song to choose. We all brainstormed and Alexis had an idea, which he was to film himself and have us not be in the video. So we agreed with him and continued the idea. I wrote the story board. Kaylnl gave ideas of how the video should go. However the most unfortunate part about the entire situation was that we couldn't meet up to film the video so he had to do it himself. I still feel bad to this day and that was one of the main reasons I decided to work by myself for the movie. As well as I didn't was to feel dependent on Alexis. And he had to edit it as well so I felt as if I did nothing and was "carried" throughout the project.

Into the Sunrise Movie

Today is April 9th, 2020. Here it is! The final product of my film. I finished this about a month ago, filming it on January 29th. I am honestly happy with the end result. At first I was so nervous to film the movie because I didn't know what I was doing. I remember the morning too. It was cold, around 50 degrees, give or take. I woke up at 5 AM and filmed non-stop for about 3 to 3.5 hours. It was an amazing experience, in which I went more in depth in my CCR. This class has been such a fun experience for me and I would do it all again honestly. Unfortunately this Coronavirus pandemic is preventing us from going back to school cause I miss it a little bit. I know people hate school because of the work. However, in which I read somewhere, school is the most social experience a normal person will have in their entire lifetime. In my opinion, I think the rest of my Junior year will be from home. The next blogs I will be posting will be my previous projects. This includes my Nike Commercial and my music video.

CCR for Into the Sunrise

Today is April 9th, 2020. This is the moment I've been waiting for. The sign that shows I am officially done with my movie. I've worked very hard on this movie and I am only hoping that is will pay off. This has hands down been the coolest and most fun project I have ever done. I have learned so much about filming, editing, directing, and pretty much everything about the media studies. The main person I want to thank for this is my amazing teacher Ms. Marchionne. I know that the Cambridge exams are canceled, I am still happy that I got to learn all of this knowledge. So lets talk about the CCR. I'm not going to lie but I was kinda of nervous. Before the final video, I had to restart like 5 times because I would mess up. But once I got past that part, I took off and filmed everything for 13 minutes and 54 seconds. I broke each of the four parts into about 3 minutes and 26 seconds because the file size was too large. I did feel as if I needed to edit it so I didn't. My teacher said be creative so when I went to the video so I can try decreasing its' size, I saw that you can add affects in to the video. So I thought it would be cool if i were to put "breaking news into the beginning" to make it look as if I was a news story.

re-edit blog

Today is Sunday, April 5th, 2020. I've still be trying to figure out things with Canvas and online schooling. This is all weird to me due to the fact that I have never been through this, and I know no one had either. Although Cambridge unfortunately canceled all exams, I still am going to write blogs just in case. Outside feels like a ghost town, especially with stores being empty and restaurants, bars, etcetera, being closed for at least a month. Well anyways, lets talk about my reediting blog. So first of all, I had to change my song in the video. I used a random song that I thought fit the video perfectly, that being "love in the sky" by the Weeknd. Since you can't use actual songs without permission, which sucks cause I, again, really wanted to use that song, went on YouTube and looked up free music. I spent about 20 minutes, give or take, going through the different songs trying to find the right one and I found a sound called "Horizons," by Scott Buckley. It was okay, but nothing compared to the song I wanted to use. In fact, I actually tried to do research about how to contact artists and whatnot but never found out how to. I tried to Direct Message the Weeknd on Instagram, hoping for a response. It's been over a month since I've done that and the message hasn't even been seen. I asked if I could use one of his songs, naming that song as well, in a school project and nothing. I guess that is to be expected. So how I took the audio and switched it was by selecting "detach audio" and replacing it with the new song. It was essay and it only took me like 5 minutes. The next blog is going to probably be about filming again. What is gonna be different is that I am going to go into depth about it more, unlike my last 3.

Re-filming blog.

Today is Friday, April 3rd, 2020. Its been awhile since my last blog, due to the pandemic of Cornavirus. Monday, the 29th of March, was the first time our school began online schooling. The reason for the absence of blogs was due to me not having time. However, I re-filmed a scene for my movie about 2 weeks ago. I messed up on the kayaking part of the film so I basically just re-shot it. I didnt need to really edit it because it was raw footage of me kayaking. All I did was squeeze it between two clips and made it look better. I had to do this on my camera because I did not have the school camera. Also, It is a big risk to have a $200 camera by the water that IS NOT water proof. This was very easy to do and only took me about 20 minutes total to do. I am 100% done with the film now but I will talk more about what else I did in the next upcoming blogs, I want to talk about my re-editing blog and etc. I am still getting use to this online schooling thing and It kinda sucks that we don't have Cambridge tests anymore. Lets just hope we all didn't make movies for nothing. And if we did, at least we all learned how to make movies. At the end of the day, it was a fun experience and one of, if not my favorite project I have ever done.

Editing Blog: Title Scene

Today is Monday, March 16th, 2020. Unfortunately, schools all across Broward County are closed due to the outbreak of COVID-19. With more time off of school including spring break, I have plenty time to edit my video. For instance, I was able to finish my title scene. Before I begun, I watched tutorials on how to insert titles into videos. I just searched this on YouTube. After learning how to do this, I began to find different fronts. There were also default titles, in which I used every time I displayed my name onto the slide. A couple things I added onto the title scene was "Wonderspies." Why i choose this name because I wanted to add the genre of mystery, where my photo was shown in the end. For the music, I choose a song by the Weeknd. The song was is called "Love in the Sky" and how I got the song was downloading it from YouTube. As I understand the song is copyrighted, I will later reedit this scene later. My next blog will be my re-filming blog. I want to fix kayaking scene. For my reedit film, It will be about this title scene. I need to change the music, reorder some of the titles, and I want to get rid of the bottom date. My camera does this weird thing that it things its 2016, which is obviously 4 years ago.

Editing Blog: Scenes 6-10

Today is March 12th, 2020. I will be talking about my editing process with scenes 6-10. Before I began these slides, that being the day after I bought my computer, I touched up on some of my previous work that I did the day before. Also, I ran though more tutorials on how to properly use Pinnacle Studios 23. I got an understanding of how to use it the first time but this time I began to really get how to use the software. My 6th scene was when I walked outside. I edited this scene to look as if there are multiple cameras filming me. This scene had a lot of errors because I had to match it perfectly. The 7th scene was about we getting my kayak and putting it into the water. I edited the scene to become an action shot. It showed me walking with the kayak towards the camera as I transitioned it into walking away. My 8th scene was about putting my stuff in my kayak. In this scene, I included cuts within the film instead of watching me struggle putting the stuff in the kayak. I deleted scene 9 because it was hard to blend into the film. Instead of only have 9, I changed scene 10 into 9 and created a completely different one. Scene 9 was about me kayaking and catching the briefcase. On the 10th, It was about me opening the brief case. Both of these scenes, I included cuts so I could make the film shorter than it is suppose to be. After editing, the film went from 19 minutes to 2:40 minutes. After even further editing, I got it down to 1:58.

Editing blog: scenes 1-5

Today is Monday, March 9th, 2020. Today I will be going through the process of editing my film. On Saturday, February 29th, I purchased my brand new computer. I also purchased Pinnacle Studios 23 on my computer for the price of $60. At first, I had no idea what I was doing. Alexis, my previous partner on my first two projects, was good with technology and editing software. Me, unlike him, did not have the equal intelligence as him. The first thing I did was watch a bunch of tutorials about how to use Pinnacle Studios 23. I did not want to mess up anything. First I transferred the footage of the camera on to my computer by inserting the SD card into it. After that I proceeded to import all of my footage on to Pinnacle Studios. I did scenes 1-5. I transferred them onto the second trey in order of the footage. I blended them into on another by using transitions and the split tool. What I did was that I split the selected scene where I want it to end and then deleted the unwanted footage. Therefore, I was able to make the scenes look as if they all go together. I didn't do the next 5 until Sunday, March 1st. Therefore, I will talk about the rest in my next blog.

Peer editing blog

Today is Thursday, March 5th 2020. Two days ago on Tuesday, out teacher wasn't here. She assigned us an assignment that had to do with the grading of another group's (in the same class) video. Unfortunately, the person, ironically being the same person that I worked with on the music video with, was not there. So for the entire class, I watched the people who were grading my video. Those people were Kol and Julia. Over the weekend, I bought a new computer at Best buy. Also, I bought a Pinnacle Studios 23 on my computer so I can work on my video from home. I finished and showed them the finish project. They liked my idea of what I did. The only flaw about my video is the music used. I couldn't find the right song for the video. So as an alternative, I used the song called "Love in the Sky," by The Weeknd.. Obviously I have to go back and change it, but other than that, my movie is done. I just need to go back and do as I said. I will talk about my editing process soon. Why I edited everything on one day, which took me 6 hours to do, as well as 3 hours to film, was because I thought everything had to be done BY tuesday. So I guess it's a win win for me since I am done early and I don't have to worry about it. ╰(*°▽°*)╯

Filming Blog: Scenes 2-10.

Today is Wednesday, February 26th, 2020. I was not able to film since Sunday because of school and work. I worked on Monday and Today. Therefore, I am not able to film until the weekend. I will film every scene needed on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I will try to get an editing software so I can edit from home. I am planning to wake up around 5 am so I can film until the sunrises. I want to try to get the sun rising on film and put in the film. I was thinking about filming before school but that would take too much time. It would be convenient because I get up at that time for school. However, I use that time to get ready, make coffee, etc. Moreover, I leave my house at 6 am and It is still somewhat dark outside. Therefore, the lighting will not be the greatest. This is why I want to film when It has light outside because the lighting will be a lot better. I am planning to do all of this on Saturday morning and editing some of it for Tuesday so I can have something to go off of for peer review. I want to at least do my title scene first. Moreover, I want to edit the scenes in order. I am very excited for this filming process because, as stated in many of my previous blogs, I want to learn how to edit for the future.

Filming Blog: Title Scene

Today is Monday, February 24th, 2020. On Thursday, February 20th, I checked out the camera to film on the weekend. I was still deciding how to do the film, therefore I did no use the given camera. Next weekend will be where I film the entire movie. I filmed the title scene, or other words scene one. I have a waterproof camera that is somewhat like a GoPro. So the idea of the scene is to be as if the camera is sinking underwater. I filmed this scene 3 different times. I have a boat pole and I used it as a guided stick so I can put the camera underwater. I tied down the camera to the pole with a metal string so that the camera will not fall off. The first two attempts of the film we on my seawall. The other one was at the end of my dock. This was the one I decided to keep and use for the title scene. I took out the SD card from the camera and dumped it on my USB drive. This is where I want to put the rest of the scenes.

Filming Blog:

Today is Tuesday, February 18th, 2020. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to film this weekend. On valentines day I had the opportunity to receive a camera to film but I was going to be busy this weekend. After thinking about what I am going to do, I have a clear idea of what I want to do. What my plan is to film this weekend and next week I can began the editing process. I have 3 days of class week which should be plenty of time to film. I will be using the school camera for inside the house and my water proof camera for outside. I do not want to risk the destruction of a $500 camera. I am planning to film the title scene first and after that I want to start from scene 2-10 in order. I am very excited for the outcome of the movie "Into the Sunrise." I feel as if I will be the first person in cambridge to do a movie such as this one. I am planning to film everything this weekend as I said and I want to start and learn how to edit. The main reason I wanted to do this projet by myself was because last time when me, Alexis, and kalyln did the music video, it took us a long time to come up with a location. I already have my SD care for the camera and I am planning to dump everything onto it and brin it school to edit. I am ready!!

planning blog: storyboard

Today is Thursday, February 13th, 2020. This is the last of my planning blogs. This basically describes in illustration of what my film is going to look like. I drew this off the shooting script that was due on February 6th. Some things in this storyboard are not going to be 100%. I will try planning my scene based on these pictures I drew. I am going to try filming this weekend either Saturday and Sunday. My next blog is due on the 20th of February. This will include a series of 12 blogs. This blog will be about filming.

Planning blog: Title Design in detail

Today is Monday, February 10th, 2020. This is the 4th blog out of 5 that I have to do before I am able to film. This includes who directed the film, who edited the film, etcetera. I am obviously the only person doing this therefore my name will be appearing many times on the title screen. The title of the film will be called "Into the Sunrise." I made the title while doing this blog. I thought of it while I was doing the fonts on slide 2. It clicked the second I thought of it and here we are. Why I thought of the name was because the movie is suppose to be an adventure that a kid, me of course, going on a adventure on his kayak. Since the time of the movie is suppose to be in the morning, "Into the Sunrise" sounded like an appropriate name for it.

Planning Blog: Location, Participants, Health, and schedule

Today is Monday, February 10th, 2020. This is one of the 5 blogs that I will be doing for this planning project. In the blog I include who will be apart of the film, the location of the film, and the schedule of what I will be doing. I will try to go off this schedule but if I do anything before or after these dates, I will change it. I am still very excited for this project and I want to put one hundred percent of my effort into it. I will most likely have trouble with the editing part. Last time Alexis did the editing because he works well in that category. Therefore, this project shall be a learning process.

planning blog: Sound/Dialogue Script

Today is February 6th, 2020. Earlier today I wrote published my shooting script. This blog is about those scenes, but this time It is about audio. I am working by myself. Therefore I wont be talking that much, if not at all. The only sound within the film will be music and natural background noise. I know this movie kinda sounds boring since there is nothing happening, but I am planning to talk later in the film. However, the film is only about 2 minutes so that won't happen. I am still excited for filming. My next blogs will be my schedule and my hand written storyboard.

planning blog: shooting script

Today is February 6th 2020. We had to make a PowerPoint on what out film will include. I am glad I did this because I thought of everything by doing this PowerPoint. I will try to go off word by word of this power point. I am going to also write my storyboard exactly like this film. That will be due the 13th, which is a Monday. I am excited for what this project will do for me. I love fishing and I thought this is the perfect subject for me. The next blog is going to be about the dialogue.

6) What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience.
-The author decides to list a scene before the title to create suspense and let the audience have a guess at what will happen later after the title scene.

7) How has technology been  used effectively? You want to consider camera angles, transitions, and editing techniques.
-Unlike the other 3 movies I already did, This one shows an actual scene, therefore camera angles are very relevant. Examples of this include a two person shot, medium shot, medium-close up, etcetera. An example of a transition used within the film can come from the very beginning where a fade out was used. This was shown when the black screen cut to the scene. An example of editing was when the scene cut between the characters speaking to each other.

Title Research: Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer

1) How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film?
-There is 8 slides with titles displayed within the opening sequence. They list the author, the title, the producer, etcetera

2) What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?
-The images prioritized within the beginning was a Christmas tree, presents and a snowman

3) What connotations do the images carry?
-The create the theme of Christmas. From the snow, to the tree, to the presents, you name it!

4) How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from outset?
The genre may not seem obvious in the opening sequence (I did look up adventure and this was the only 2 search results), but if you know the story of Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer, then you will 100% know this movie is adventure.

5) How does the film establish an enigma from the outset?
-The film doesn't really create a enigma. It is very straight forward, but one can argue that enigma could be found where the screen goes dark and the scene ends.

6) What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience.
-The producer makes the film appealing because it creates a warm feeling. This is because who doesn't love Christmas, where it is the holiday for family.

7) How has technology been  used effectively? You want to consider camera angles, transitions, and editing techniques.
-Although It is an animation, a camera movement that could be noted is a pan, as the "camera" is going from left to right. Transitions and editing techniques that is also noted is the wind making the title appear (editing) and fade out, where at the end the screen turns black.

Title Research: eXistenZ

1) How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film?
-There were 9 titles displayed during the opening sequence

2) What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?
-The main focus of the images are on a planet that appears, assuming, could be Mars

3) What connotations do the images carry?
-They create a sense of urgency that makes the audience want to know what happens next

4) How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from outset?
-The genre is listed as science-fiction, but it can be also adventure do to the fact that they are exploring the specific plant, assuming that is what the movie is about. The name of the movie, "eXistenZ," can be easily assumed that this movie is going to be about aliens on a different planet.

5) How does the film establish an enigma from the outset?
-At first, the area of where the picture is. This creates mystery and lets the audience makes guesses of where the movie is going to be taken place.

6) What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience.
-Although the beginning comes out as kind of boring, the appeal is the little snippets used within the fade away where the names are displayed.

7) How has technology been  used effectively? You want to consider camera angles, transitions, and editing techniques.
-There is not really any camera angles within this short clip. However there are a lot of transitions, such fade in's, and many editing techniques, such as jump cuts (this is where each image jumps to the other)

Title Research (Star wars: A new hope, 1977)

1) How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film?
- 1 title is displayed in the opening sequence.

2) What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?
-The main image prioritized is the space-themed background where is shows the title "Star Wars"

3) What connotations do the images carry?
-It somewhat creates the feeling of adventure, where you are going to explore space.

4) How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from outset?
-The genre of Adventure is reinforced by the way the front is being brought off the screen. As the text gets further away, one can say they would feel as if they are traveling through space.

5) How does the film establish an enigma from the outset?
-It makes the audience what will happen next in the film as the text is a brief summary of what would happen in the film, kind of like the back of a book.

6) What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience.
-As said in question 5, the way the film creator makes the text go away from the screen and the brief summary makes the audience what to find out what happens next.

7) How has technology been  used effectively? You want to consider camera angles, transitions, and editing techniques.
-Camera angles are not used in the portion due to it being only a display screen. However, an example of a transition is the way the text fades away as if it leaving the screen and getting further away.

Title Research: Watch the Titles Website

Today is Friday, January 31st, 2020. Yesterday I researched the website art of the title. This website in my opinion is better than the other one because it give you more options and just looks cleaner. Unlike the other website, it has videos displayed rather than just pictures. They are also listed in categories , such as video games, student projects, etcetera. They also a search bar where you can search different genres, like art of the titles. The website also has title sequences, designers, and studio on the top bar. They also have a list of famous actors and interviews with them, creating a pull factor for the website. Also if you do not want to look at movies, they also have a list of TV shows. They also have a featured day, such as today being called "French Friday."I am going to use this website for projects in the future.

Title Research: Art of the Title Website

Today is Thursday 30th, 2020. We are onto learning how to create titles. This website, "Art of the title," is a great start on learning on to create titles. It has many different examples on to create titles, as well as giving you a filter on what to look for. There's even a search button so you can search for the genre you are researching. For example, if I am researching the genre of action, It will give me a large list of examples of what some titles could look like. Most of the featured titles are relevant and are from recent shows/movies. You can also look up other genres. this website very great if you want to start out in the filming industry.

Genre research movies

Are we in for a treat because what a funny movie this was. This movie came out in 2017 and it took me a year and a half to actually watch it because I didn't go to the movie theater to see it. It was as enjoyable on the coach as the movie theater. Now on to the more important stuff. The costumes used in the film were casual hiking clothing, that simple. The lighting was mostly outside and there was a scene or two where it was night time. This movie has some big name for actors, such as Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, and Danny DeVito. There was no makeup in the film. Props were, most oviously, the video game consul in the beginning of the film. The setting of the film takes place in a video game, but more precisely a forest and a town. Now on to CAMS. Common camera angles within the film include two person shot, high angle, and over the shoulder, just to name a few. Common camera angles within the film include pan, tilt, and zoom, also to name a few. Like I've said so far for every movie, the sound that is include in the film is dialogue because what is a movie now-a-days without sound, unless you like silent movies. The elements of the film is that some high school kids get trapped inside of a video game. Kind of sounds like the show Sword Art Online but hey I'm not here for controversy. What I like about this film is that it gave me a couple laughs, just like any movie with Kevin Hart in it. Now what I kind of don't like in the film is that the movie ended at 1 hour 59 minutes. Like com'on you got to make the movie longer. All in seriousness, quite like Avengers, there was nothing about the movie I didn't like.

genre research movies

I was going to include the 1st movie but it fell outside of the 7-year margin. At least this movie is the only movie I own on DVD out of the 4 movies. Now lets go to the important stuff about the movie. Costumes included the outfit to Katniss Everdeen. The Lighting was the "sun", obviously because they were in a forest. I put quotations around sun because in the movie the arena was really inside a very large dome. The actors in the film were Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam hemsworth, just to name a few. There was not too much makeup unless we are talking about Caesar Flickerman. The props in the film were the weapons used when the characters fought each other. The setting was inside the dome where the "players" fought each other. Now on to CAMS. Common angles in this movie are low angles, medium shot, and long angles. There are so many angles in this film that I name almost every single known one in this movie. The movements in this film are tracking shot, zoom, and pan, just to name a few. Finally, sound in the movie is, which i feel like I am being repetitive, dialogue. The elements of this movie is basically the sequel of the first on and post-war where Katniss wants to destroy the district. Now onto what I like and what I do not like about this film. What I like is that the film is very entertaining and as good as the books in my opinion at least. However, the part I did not like about the film was that at times when watching it I would get bored and kinda tired of the same part playing.

Genre research movies

Star Wars has always been my favorite series of movies and although the older ones may be way out of my time, I use to watch them when I was younger. I've seen every single movie more than once and it only made me happier when they came out with more. This movie came out in 2017 and was the squeal to the newer movies, therefore being the element. Now onto the important stuff. The costumes in the film include stormtroopers, Kylo Ren's outfit, and literally everyone's outfit since  they all mostly wear something different. The lighting of the film is mostly bright, where they mostly fought in the light rather than the dark. The actors within the film were Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, and Mark Hamill. Most of the characters have make-up to make it look as if they are alien-like. Props with in the film are light sabors, little characters, and even R2D2. The setting is space. Now on to CAMS. Common angles in the movie are low angles, aerial view, and two person shot. There are so many angles in this movie that it would take forever trying to find all of them. Camera movements in the movie include tracking shot, pan, and zoom, just to name a few. Sound with in the film, again include this one, is dialogue where the characters are almost always talking to other people. Now what I like and what I do not like about this film. I love how star wars is back and this movie series is almost better than the original. However, what I do no like is that the actors in the movie are somewhat irreverent and are only big because of the movie. I want to see big names in these movies in these movies but at the same time, props to them because they still made the movie a 10/10.

Genre research movies

Adventure and avengers seem to be two very familiar words. I include this movie on the list because it one of my favorite movies of all time. This movie came out in April of 2019 and It is one of the only movies i could watch again and again. Now on the important stuff. The costumes within the film can include Iron Man's suit, Captain America's Spandex, and even Thano's gauntlet, as it goes with his familiar look. The lighting within the film is dark, light, you name it. In a almost 3 hour movie, you can expect to see the whole spectrum. Actors within the film include Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, etcetera. Props include Captain American's shield, Rockets blaster, and even Thano's gauntlet, although it is also apart of his costume. The setting of the film is suppose to be set 2023 and takes place throughout time as time travel is a large factor. On to CAMS. Common camera angles in the film are long shot (shown many, many times in the film), two person shot(also shown many times, maybe even more than long shot), and close up (shown a couple times within the film, example being when they beheaded Thano's in the beginning of the film). Common camera movements in the film is tracking shot, tilt, and dutch (These are in literally almost every film). The most common sound in this film, and pretty much every film that includes audio every, is dialogue. The elements, or the moral of the story,  basically takes place after the previous Avengers movie and is so called the last of the Avengers movies. Now onto what I like and what I do not like about the film. What I like, or rather love, is that although the movie is 3 hours, it has constant enjoyment. However, what I do not like is that it was the last film of it's kind. There is literally nothing about this film I actually do not like and It might even be better than Deadpool on my favorites list, therefore being my favorite.

Genre research (The final decision)

Today is Saturday, January 25th, 2019. After compiling my research on my previous blog, me, myself and I have came up with a genre. I chose Adventure. I know that in my previous blog I stated that I'm not the most fond of adventure films because they tend to bore me but I believe I can make an interesting one. I am a big fan of fishing and I have been doing the sport for years. Therefore, fishing could be perfect for a adventure film. I am excited with my choice and to be honest, I already made the decision of what genre I will do from day one when we started this project.

Genre research (2 more genres)

After doing some research and thinking, i have compiled two more genre ideas that i could use in the 2 minute movie. Besides drama, I have came up with the adventure and action. Those two movie ideas are always fun to watch, thus the reason I choose them. Now I've done some research on the two genres, therefore lets talk about it. I will be reviewing the CLAMPS, CAMS, editing, and what i like and don't like about each genre.

Lets start out with Action. Common costumes that are in these films are military uniforms, suits, and even dress-up superhero outfits like Batman or Deadpool just to name a few. Common lighting is usually dim and dark because of the dark, but also bright because of explosions and whatnot. Common actors within the films are people like Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible and Jason Statham in Fast and the Furious. There is usually no makeup in these films but common props are explosives and guns. The setting of these films are usually everywhere in the world but most commonly cites. Now on to CAMS. Common camera angles are close ups, wide angles, and high angles, just to name a few. Common camera movements in these films are tracking shots, dutch shots, and tilt. Common sounds in these films are dialogue and sound effects, where the both hold a major key role. Now on to editing. The most common editing in action films are eye-line match, cut, establishing shot, and cutaway, just to name a few. Now on to what I like and what I don't like about action films. First of all, action films are on of if not my favorite type of genre because It's always entertaining. However what I don't like about action films is that they all seem to be the same and after awhile, watching too many action films can get really boring at times. The elements of these films usually include constant action and will never disappoint when it comes to hang on the edge of your seat.

Now It's time for the the adventure genre. Common consumes that are in these films are usually casual clothing, nothing too special about that. Common lighting is always going to be bright because you want that individual in the film is doing and where they are. Common actors can be Dwayne Johnson in Jumanji and Harrison Ford in the Fugitive. Makeup often includes somewhat dirty because they are out in the wilderness in most cases. Props are not the biggest factor but you can say the camera is a prop. Setting is most commonly in the wilderness like an island or forest. Now on to CAMS. Common camera angles in the film can include Aerial angles, two person shot, and point of view shot. Common movements are tilt, dutch, and tracking shot. Common sound is dialogue and sound affects. Common editing in adventure films are jump cut, cutaway, shot-reverse, and much much more. What I love about adventure movies is that they are almost always different from other adventure films. However, I always get bored watching these type of movies. The only adventure movies i can watch is if they are mixed in with another genre such as action, comedy, or even horror. The elements of these films usually include a story about traveling place to place and these types of movies always have a beautiful scene.

Genre research (PowerPoint)

This project was out first of the year. We had to choose a random genre of movies and do a research project about it. In this case we got drama, which in my opinion is one of my favorite because I love comedy. The only genres I would put in front of drama is action, science-fiction, and war. My favorite movie is in category for just about all these genres. Deadpool is comedy, action, and science-fiction. Deadpool 2 is also equally as good as the 1st in my opinion. Although I am a fan of comedy, I'm not too fond of the other side of drama, that being tragic.

Final project blog: pitch

Today is January 17th, 2020. Last blog, I talked about pitches and ideas I had for them. Out of three I chose, the two topics I have to consider are fishing and haunted pitches. The reason I excluded the robbery one was because it seemed too vague for a high school film. Moreover, fishing would be a unique one because if i had to guess, not many people do this type of film. On the other hand, a haunting film may not be unique but would be fun to do so. I am excited to do this film because, again, I am doing this project by myself instead of doing it with Alexis and Kaylyn. This filming will most likely be at my house.

Now lets talk about the pros and cons of each pitch. "The brisk morning of the mysterious suit that changed everything.." Lets talk about the pros first. Pro one: I could very well be the first person to do such a project. That is a good thing because it creates a unique film and allows it to be more interesting. Pro two: It is a very easy project for me because I fish all the time. It being easy allows me to take less time to plan for it and film and gives me more time to edit. Con one: Since the video camera is not water proof, I am at risk with damaging the camera. This is bad because the cameras a very expensive, that being around $500. Con two: I am only filming with one person and It will be hard to hold the camera.

On to the second pitch. "The haunted night of a cold winter day." Lets talk about the pros first. Pro one: It will be fun to do and It's also easy. Although easy my not be the best way all the time, it takes pressure off me since I am working by myself. Pro two: I live my a graveyard so location can be easy to find. Maybe filming in a graveyard seems creepy, but i guess that's what a horror film is suppose to be. Con one: Lighting. Typically in horror films, It's dark which gives it a scary mood but I would need light to see myself. Con two: Filming a horror in a graveyard is not the best of ideas. A graveyard is a land of people who are resting in peace and filming this for entertainment.

My final choice is going to be Fishing because I have lighting, It's easy, and It's unique.

Start of the final task

Hello, my name is Adrian and I am back once again. Last time Wrote a blog was back on December 5th, 2019 for the final task of the music video. Now we have a new assignment and it will officially be out last project. It will count for 50% of our Cambridge exam grade. We have to make a 2 minute video about the beginning of a movie. I have some ideas but ill share that for later. Anyways, all we did between the time of my last blog to today was a mid term project. We had to make at least 43  slides about terms. Of course my project was the best. I got a 100% on it and my teacher said that she would use it for next year, hopefully. For this project, I just hope i can do it by myself, whereas the other first I worked with Alexis, and the second with the addition of Kaylyn.

I have learned a lot of new terms over the past few months. I have learned things such as editing, planning, and filming. For the commercial, I learned how to film. The second, I learned more how to edit. Hopefully, I can get better at planning since this project will be done by myself. The one thing i kept consistent was my drawing skills. Although they may not appear to be great, I tend not to try. But I truly can draw and it makes planning easier for myself, at least. I'm hoping that this project can make me improve all three skills mentioned. Because I am working by myself, it will truly bring forward those skills. This will be my biggest challenge.

On the first day back, the class learned the term pitch. A pitch is a Hollywood term to describe an idea where a film is encapsulated in 25 words or less. It's usually with one sentence. Since I am working by myself, I have to come up with everything obviously. My main topics are going to be fishing, haunting, and or robbery. Here are my pitches. Pitch one; "The haunted night of a cold winter day." This pitch it about a haunting in mu house. Second pitch; "The brisk morning of Ol' Blue the shark." This story will be about me fishing for a shark. Finally, the third pitch; "The big heist that changed everything." this story will be about a heist that went wrong.
